YA Movie News Roundup: John Green’s PAPER TOWNS Will Be A Movie

Welcome back to the YA Movie News Roundup, where we have a whole lotta fantasy happening. But first! A little bit of reality.

John Green's Paper Towns will be a Fox 2000 film, using much of the same creative team that's behind his upcoming The Fault in our Stars: TFioS screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Webe, producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen and star Nat Wolff will all return for Paper Towns.

And here's a new The Fault in our Stars featurette.

Sofia Coppola will direct a live-action The Little Mermaid film! Based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale rather than the Disney version (which I just rewatched last night, le sigh). This is such exciting news!

You can see more Maleficent footage in this Japanese trailer:

And star Angelina Jolie partnered with Stella McCartney to create a children's clothing line inspired by Maleficent.

Levi Miller will play Peter Pan in Joe Wright's Pan, joining Hugh Jackman, Garett Hedlund and Rooney Mara. The kid's in good company.

And while we're reporting on upcoming fantasy films, this one isn't YA but I'm stoked: I AM HERCULES!!!!

The Rock, Hercules himself, spoke with my editor Devin about the film and what makes it different from previous versions over at BAD.

Sarah Dessen attended the Veronica Mars premiere and wrote an adorable blog about it! And my friend Matt wrote a great editorial about why he thinks it's a good thing that the movie didn't appeal to him, a VM newbie.

If you haven't seen Mandy W's Highly Scientific Analysis of The Giver trailer, do that now! And io9 has an unofficial black and white version.

The new Step Up: All In trailer looks aaaaawesome.

Speaking of Step Up: Ethan Peck (from the 10 Things I Hate About You show) and Andie from Step Up 2: The Streets are in a movie together?

Theo James of Divergent and Downton Abbey fame gave an interview where it's revealed that he's sensitive, liberal and feminist. I LOVE HIM.

Jessica Brody's Unremembered, the first in a - you guessed it! - trilogy has been acquired by Reliance Entertainment.

In a world where time travel and gene manipulation exist, Unremembered follows a 16-year-old girl who finds herself floating in the Pacific Ocean, following a plane crash, with no memory of her past. As speculation about her identity spreads, she is forced to piece together her forgotten history with only one clue to her identity -- a boy named Zen who claims he helped her escape from a top-secret science experiment conducted by a corporation called Diotech.

Lauren Graham did a Reddit AMA yesterday!

Finally, I wrote a thing about how Dirty Dancing's Baby Houseman was my first feminist role model, because duh.

That's it for this week! Leave us your thoughts downstairs.
