Last week, it was announced that Ann Brashares' Sisterhood Everlasting would be adapted for the silver screen with Ken Kwapis, the director of the first film, returning and Liz W. Garcia writing the script.
When I heard the news, I had the following reaction:
1. Wait, why?
2. They don't have the cast confirmed yet? So... would they make this movie without the original cast? Then again, none of these actresses seem particularly busy, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get them to commit.
3. This movie will be a HUGE DEBBIE DOWNER.
4. Who's Liz W. Garcia? (Answer: She wrote and directed The Lifeguard with Kristen Bell, which I haven't seen but heard was... meh. And she was on the Dawson's Creek staff back in 1998. Huh.)
I was never a huge fan of the series, so I'm speaking as a bit of an outsider here, but does this film really need to be made? Did people love the book (or the first two movies) enough to warrant a film adaptation? Will anyone actually see it?
Hit me up with your opinions in the comments, and FYI, spoilers for the final book ARE allowed.
