Procrastination Pro-Tips: Play It Again, Dick

The internet has been really bringing me down this week (well, I suppose it’s the world that’s bringing me down, the internet just reports on it) but it’s Friday, which means it’s link roundup time.  But I will try and keep things light...hopefully the saddest news you’ll see in my roundup this week is a show you like getting cancelled.

Book Related Things

Hey!  Go read this amazing piece by Alix on the Fun Home controversy happening in South Carolina.  I’ll wait.  Are you finished?  Okay, now go read Fun Home.

Wait, did you read Fun Home yet?  Well, Rolling Stone just named Fun Home as the fourth best non-superhero graphic novel.  So, that’s a pretty solid endorsement!

Buzzfeed has a lengthy, in-depth piece on John Green that is worth a read.  Also, Cosmo asks if we can get to old for YA novels (and John Green says no.  Because, duh.)

Meg Cabot fans rejoice!  She is releasing new books in the Princess Diaries and Mediator series.  But there will also be a middle-grade Princess Diaries spin-off about Mia’s long lost half-sister.  (Ehhh.)

The Toast brings the funny with quotes from Anne of the Island and Ayn Rand’s Rainbow Fish.

If you’re in New York City or London, check out these literary spots.

The Book Smugglers are going to be publishing short storiesSqueeeeeeee!

Movie Related Things

Mockingjay has some more casting news, including Tigris and an new character played by Michelle Forbes.

Maleficent has new photos, posters, art and a featurette.

The Mean Girls musical is being workshopped soon.  Here’s hoping it’s great!

There will be at least six Star Wars movies in the next ten years.  I would make a snarky comment about Disney not having heard of market saturation, buuuuut, this is Star Wars.  They will all make all the money.

Lionsgate is looking to reboot the Power Rangers series.

I can’t help it.  This fake trailer for the Sofia Coppola Little Mermaid movie made me laaaugh.

Mini Clueless reunion.  (Honest question...have we figured out whether Stacey Dash has some sort of horrific portrait hidden away in her attic or not?)

TV Related Things

Details are out on the digital Veronica Mars spin-off.  It will be called Play It Again, Dick and Ryan Hansen will star as himself.  It will debut later this summer.

Girl Meets World gets a longer trailer.  (Also, Cory Matthews is her teacher.  Will he pull a Mr. Feeny and follow her class too?  Think of all the lesson planning that requires.)

News it starting to hit on which shows the networks are picking up and which are getting the ax.  So far we know the CW has cancelled Star-Crossed, The Tomorrow People and The Carrie Diaries.  They also decided against picking up Bloodlines, the Supernatural spin-off.

The CW did renew Beauty and the Beast, Hart of Dixie and The 100. (Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Arrow and Reign were all previously had their renewals announced.)  They are also picking up four new series, which you can read about here.  (I am obviously excited about iZombie, because ROB THOMAS!)

ABC is newing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and picking up the Agent Carter spin-off show.  (Very excited about the latter!)

You can read about shows picked up by other networks here, including Gotham, whose trailer you can take a look at.

Miscellaneous Things

The other day, Amy Schumer and Gabourey Sidibe gave great personal speeches on confidence.  They are worth a read.

I’m pretty sure all celebrities should be asked to look at fanart and read fanfiction that they star in.

So what stories or videos have you excited this week?  Any TV show news you’re particularly excited about?  Heart broken over Star-Crossed?  Let us know in the comments.
