#YASummerShowdown 2014, Week 4: You’ve Got Mail

With the holiday festivities last week, you'd think it'd be a slow week in #YAShowdown, right? HAHAHA LOL NOPE.

WEEK 4 CHALLENGE, PART I

25,407 miles. Or 40,888 kilometres, if you prefer metric (and I do). That's the total distance the #YASummerShowdown teams travelled for the Week 4 challenge -- sort of. Each team sent a touristy postcard of their hometown with a book recommendation to one of their competitors.

We had dubbed this our Daddy-Long-Legs challenge, because of the flimsy connection we could make between book clubs and mail (our July '13 pick!). In truth, Catie noted that this was really more like the Ashbury/Brookfield series. But seeing as DLL was the chosen theme, she also made this suggestion in the gamemaker chamber. (Spoiler alert for DLL!)

Catie:  Also, 100 bonus points if you fall in love with and marry your postcard recipient. Daddy-Long-Legs style.

Mandy:  HAHAHAHA don't joke, 'cause I'm sure SF and their competitiveness would do it.

Alexis:  "Well, I mean, it can't be worse than that online dating fail…" - Sahiti of SF

And even though it'd make no sense, since the teams sending the postcards would be the Judys, I was hoping for photos with top hats and canes. My desire to see the clubs cosplay as Rich Uncle Pennybags cares not for logic!

Absurd machinations aside, the postcard routes actually form a giant chain of this year's #YASummerShowdown teams, with no link closer than a day's drive away (748 mi, or 1,203 km, from the Easton-based #FYAFreeAgents member to #FYAMAD) and the furthest crossing diagonally over almost the entire United States (2,609 mi, or 4,198 km, from #FYAVBC to #FYAON). Behold!

So who wins this challenge? Well, that's all up to YOU! Please scroll through the teams' submissions in the photo galleries below, and vote for your fave in each category! Polls close on Sunday, July 13th at 11:59pm Pacific.

WEEK 4 CHALLENGE, PART II

Prep work for the #YASummerShowdown cocktail parties is underway! Each team created a SEEEECRET signature drink based on a YA book or character for a future challenge. Here's a sneak peek of which books inspired the teams to drink (er, in a good way)!

PHOTO HUNT

SO many great photo hunt entries this week, you guys. #FYADFW joins the Emergency Kanye Dance Party and fangirls over Lucy Maud Montgomery#FYAON serves breakfast anytime; #FYAVWA's Mia heads out for her big date with Adam; #FYADC makes ketchup clouds; and #SFFYA likes butts and they cannot lie. (Like, seriously. Exposed buttocks are involved.)

There are two major trends this week, one of which being Photoshop skillz for replicating the original cover art.

#FYAPGH takes an Afterparty stroll down Pittsburgh's Liberty Avenue.

#FYAPGH also restages Liv, Forever.

#ATXFYA takes on Maggot Moon.

#SFFYA includes a few extras for their This Song Will Save Your Life cover.

AND OMG PUNS. SO MANY PUNS.

#FYAPGH leaves their Summer Prints. (The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson)

#FYADFW sez, "We Were Outliers". (We Were Liars by E. Lockhart)

#FYAFreeAgents and #FYADC team up for The Wind Beneath His Wingers. (Winger by Andrew Smith)

The Fan Girls and Fan Boy of #SFFYA. (Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell)

#SFFYA (left) and #ATXFYA have different takes on Jackson Pearce's Cold Spell.

It's A Matter of Soles for #FYAFreeAgents. (A Matter of Souls by Denise Lewis Patrick)

Were the #FYAFreeAgents' idea solemates #FYANYC inspired by Kristy & Co.? (A Matter of Souls by Denise Lewis Patrick)

Little do the teams know this is all v. good practice for a future challenge...

LEADERBOARD

After seeing their lead over #ATXFYA evaporate in Week 3, #SFFYA has surged ahead back on top (dirty!). Hot on their heels are #FYADC and #FYAFreeAgents -- fitting, given their sisterly collabs! -- and right behind them are #FYADFW and #FYAVWA, who have been keeping pace with each other since the start of the competition.

That's a wrap for Week 4 of #YASummerShowdown! See y'all back here next week!
