Nashville 1x3: Someday You’ll Call My Name

I think we should always start this post with a big Tami Taylor HEY Y'ALL.

So, HEY Y'ALL!

Lord, the drama just keeps coming on Nashville, and after only three episodes, I'm already an addict. Just like Juliette's mama! This show is racing through story lines like they're going out of style, and I am totally ok with that. In this episode:

- Deacon continued to waffle between Rayna and Juliette.

- Teddy's financial past started to haunt him.

- Rayna found out her mom had a 10 year affair, which kind of explains why her dad is such an asshole.

- Scarlett choked at the recording studio with Gunnar, who then convinced Avery to give her a pep talk about singing.

- Juliette's mom showed up at her house, and now she's living with her.

- Juliette stole a bottle of nail polish and some random girls caught her doing it on a phone video.

- Rayna's daughters performed at the talent show and CHARMED THE HEARTS OF AMERICA.

Rayna vs Juliette (i.e. who "won" the episode)

Damn, I can't believe I'm saying this, but Juliette totally aced this episode. (Well, until that unfortunate nail polish incident.) She went from Sexy Barbie to Human Barbie, and all of the emotional trauma with her mother made me want to give her a big ole hug. Plus, she really does seem to admire and respect Deacon, and even I can't believe he said no to her at the end. Rayna, on the other hand, was kind of a hot mess. She wants to have her cake and eat it too, but as many country songs will tell you, that's not always possible. I get why she can't let Deacon go, but she really needs to decide on a man and then stick with him. (And I pray that man will be Deacon). p.s. WOMAN, STOP SPENDING MONEY. I mean, yes, one can never have too many spangly outfits, but YOU HAVE NO LIQUID ASSETS.

Best Scene

It was too short (because the editing on this show still sucks), but when Gunnar told Avery about Scarlett choking at the studio, and then implied that Avery do something about it, that was MASTERFUL. It was such a fine bit of manipulation, but it also packed an emotional punch, because you know Gunnar is totes in love with Scarlett.

Second place goes to the scene when Avery gives Scarlett the pep talk about singing, because we FINALLY got to see why in the hell she's with this guy. I mean, obvs, I still prefer Gunnar, but at least they're giving some depth to Avery. Which, based on the preview for the next episode, will promptly be taken away. Still, it was nice to see Avery not be a jackhole for one second. (Show, when will you do the same for Teddy?)

Best Subplot

Just look at these adorable songbirds! They're the best thing to happen to talent shows since Joanna Anderson in Love Actually. I'm so glad the show is developing Rayna's daughters to be more than set pieces, and I'm interested to see what happens when the oldest gal starts trying to follow in her mama's footsteps.

Also, I am relieved that there is NO SIDEBOOB IN SIGHT.

WTF

Seriously, Juliette's manager? Seriously? You think it's a GOOD IDEA for her crackhead mom to MOVE IN WITH HER because living with a drug addict mother is easier than just getting her into rehab? SERIOUSLY? IN WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE? CRAZYTOWN?!!!

Burning Questions

- It looks like Avery is going to get super jealous of Scarlett's success so WHEN ARE THEY BREAKING UP SO SHE CAN DATE GUNNAR?

- Deacon said no to Juliette's tour, so does that mean he IS going to tour with Rayna?

- What sort of shady financial shizz did Teddy actually do?

- We didn't get any more hints in this episode about why Rayna chose Teddy over Deacon. INQUIRING MINDS NEED TO KNOW.

- Will the new show Malibu Country with Reba be any good? (Ok, that's more of a rhetorical question, because no, but still. REBA! I LOVE YOU!)

So what did y'all think? Let's dish in the comments!
