YA Movie News Roundup: Pretty Much All Of VERONICA MARS Is Returning For The Spin-Off

Welcome back to the YA Movie News Roundup, where I'm a day late and a dollar short! Apologies on the tardiness, and I'll make it up to you with the BEST NEWS EVER.

Everyone (except Mac), and I mean everyone (except Mac) is coming back for the Veronica Mars spin-off Play it Again, Dick! Here's what creator Rob Thomas has said about the majorly meta 8-episode series:

The web series will have more in common with Party Down tonally, but it will be about Ryan Hansen, or at least a version of Ryan Hansen, deciding to capitalize on the current Veronica Mars heat to get his own series on the air. He’ll try to pull his actor pals into the venture with varying degrees of success.

First of all, I love Party Down. I might even love it more than Veronica  Mars? Or at least as much as Veronica Mars, certainly. So this is nothing but good news. Next up: here's who will be playing what, courtesy of Buzzfeed:

Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars and Kristen Bell

Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls and Jason Dohring

Enrico Colantoni as Keith Mars and Enrico Colantoni

Percy Daggs III as Wallace Fennel and Percy Daggs III

Daran Norris as Cliff McCormack and Daran Norris

Francis Capra as Eli “Weevil” Navarro and Francis Capra

Kyle Gallner as Cassidy “Beaver” Casablancas and Kyle Gallner (still alive??)

Christopher B. Duncan as Clarence Wiedman and Christopher B. Duncan

Ryan Devlin as Duncan Kane and Ryan Devlin (he was originally Mercer the rapist in Season 3, so this is hilariously mean casting)

Chris Lowell as Chris Lowell (but not Piz, evidently)

Ken Marino as Ken Marino (but not Vinnie)

Amanda Noret as Madison Sinclair (but not Amanda Noret)

Lisa Thornhill as Celeste Kane (but not Lisa Thornhill)

It's a little confusing, right? Also we'll have two new faces: Robert Buckley and Rose McIver, who both star in Rob Thomas' new series iZombie, will be in Play It Again, Dick. The web series premieres September 15 on CW Seed, and I CANNOT WAIT. (Still. I will miss Mac.)

Ringer has been cast in The Fifth Wave! She looks appropriately tough and haughty (and hottie).

You can see a bunch of great Mockingjay Part One posters here

Jennifer Lee, a co-writer and co-director on Frozen, is writing the new Hollywood adaptation of Madeline L’Engle’s 1962 book A Wrinkle In Time. It better be good! I bet it'll be good. Frozen inspires confidence at least, doesn't it? I think Anna has a bit of Meg in her, and there's definitely some Calvin inspiring Kristoff.

A.V. Club says it better than I could: "Lionsgate finds a new young-adult novel to split into multiple movies." This time it's Jason Mott’s The Wonder Of All Things.

Mott’s sophomore novel, The Wonder Of All Things tells the story of Ava, a 13-year-old girl who finds she has restorative powers after she heals the injuries of her best friend Wash, following an incident where a plane crashes at an air show. Word of her ability gets out, and soon people from all over the world are flocking to Ava’s small town in the hope she’ll use her gift on them.

Oh man. Oh no. Or oh...yes? Twilight's Stephenie Meyer is going to produce an adaptation of Lois Duncan's Down a Dark Hall. Prepare your livers!

Be an intern for Christian Grey. Uhm. If that's your thing. No judgment.

ICYMI, FYA edition! See If I Stay early. Read a Q&A with The Giver stars and author Lois Lowry. Marvel at Mandy C's awesome evening with Chris Weitz.

Not quite YA but relevant to our interests:

Footage from Lifetime's Saved by the Bell movie!

All the Step Up franchise dance routines ranked

Rory got sneaky-married!

Miles Teller is keeping busy!

That's it for this week! Give us your thoughts downstairs.
