Procrastination Pro-Tips: Halloween, Fake Kristen Stewart and More

Happy Friday everyone!  For those of you on the East Coast, I hope you kept safe and dry this week!  And hopefully everyone had a Happy Halloween!  In fact, I have a lot of Halloween themed links for you all today.  Maybe it’s a bit too late, but wasn’t Halloween postponed in New Jersey?  Also, there shouldn’t be only one time of year for reading or watching spooky things.  Let’s get to it!

Halloween Related Things

If you want some scary book recommendations, The Hairpin, Atlantic Wire and Slate have you covered.  In honor of Neil Gaiman’s All Hallows Read, The Mary Sue has put together a list of their favorite literary horror heroines.  Plus, if you’re looking for some book-related Halloween fun, you should check out The Book Smugglers Halloween Week.  It's one of my personal favorites!

Buzzfeed has about a million Halloween themed “articles” but I will try and limit myself to zoo animals with pumpkins, pet costumes and creepy vintage postcards.  (As I’ve mentioned before, I have a deep love for creepy vintage things.)  Badass Digest has a round up of some amazing pumpkin carvings on the web.

And in case you had been wondering, Fake Kristen Stewart attempts to explain the origins of Halloween.  Sort of.

Book Related Things

Archaeologist believe they found the cave of the women who inspired Island of the Blue Dolphins.  This article has a lot of great information on the whole story, but major BUMMER warning ahead.

If you’re into into publishing world news, looks like Random House and Penguin will be combined.  That is gonna be one big publisher!

This Harry Potter Quiet Book is just too adorable not to share.

And from the Atlantic Wire, we’ve got a look at overweight teens in YA and an interview with Speak author Laurie Halse Anderson.

Movie Related Things

The BIG NEWS heard ‘round the internet this week was that Lucasfilm was sold to Disney (for an ungodly  - and yet, perfectly reasonable - amount) and a brand new Star Wars Episode 7 will be hitting theaters in 2015.  Which...should be fine.  I mean, Disney will never do anything as awful as Indiana Jones 4.  Wait, what am I talking about?  I don’t remember a fourth Indiana Jones because I PURGED ALL MEMORY OF THAT ABOMINATION.

The Awl has a piece on Forks, Washington, unofficial home of Twilight.  Which, is nothing new to me, since I watched an entire documentary on Forks.

Miscellaneous Thing

And last but not least, Joss Whedon tells you who to vote for next week.

That’s all we’ve got for you these week, but please share your fun links (especially Halloween themed!) in the comments below.
