Previously on The 100: Lexa betrayed Clarke by striking a deal with Mt. Weather to get the Grounder prisoners released in exchange for a retreat. Other stuff happened too but THAT WAS WAY HARSH, LEXA.
ARE YOU GUYS OKAY? DID EVERYONE SURVIVE? DID YOU CHECK FOR BROKEN BONES? HOW MANY FINGERS AM I HOLDING UP?
Good news: Bellamy survived season two! As did Jasper! And Monty! And Octavia! And Lincoln! And Clarke! (Obviously.)
Bad news: We have to survive, like, six months without this show. I feel like Craig, paralyzed by panic and standing up in the boat. JUST THROW ME OVERBOARD, JAHA, AND END MY MISERY.
For reals, though, what are we gonna do? Rewatch every episode thus far? Start writing fanfiction? Watch Bellarke and Wicken montages 24/7? Okay, that sounds reasonable.
But before we do that, let's analyze the shizz out of this season finale. Hand me a blue book cos I'm about to write an ESSAY.
In A Large Body of Water --> The Promised Land
I'm gonna sum this storyline up in one fell swoop, because let's be honest, nobody cares about Jaha.
Jaha, Malfoy and two other disciples are rowing through dark waters, and it appears they've been at it for a while. (So much so that Malfoy calls Jaha "Ahab." Nailed it!) Jaha commands one of the dudes (Craig) to keep rowing, but he's tiiiiiired. Suddenly, they see a light, which they assume (correctly) is coming from a lighthouse... on land! They're saved! J/K, the writers aren't that nice. Something in the water attacks the boat, causing one of the disciples to fall overboard. Malfoy tries to save him, but the creature takes a bite out of him then drags its victim under. Not satisfied with one kill, it continues to strike the boat, so Jaha THROWS CRAIG OVERBOARD. And we thought Lexa was cold! DAYUM. The creature, which looks like a giant leech with teeth, swallows a screaming Craig whole. Let me put it like this - this monster would call Janet "Ms. Jackson."
The sacrifice worked, and the creature leaves them alone, so a seriously injured Malfoy and Jaha make it to shore. The former is pissed at Jaha for being so ruthless, and I'm amazed once again by Malfoy's character arc. How the tables have turned! He refuses to follow Jaha any further, and his body agrees by collapsing. A drone flies overhead and Jaha decides to follow it after swearing to return. Malfoy yells after him, "YOUR PROMISED LAND SUCKS!"
The next morning, Malfoy wakes up and stumbles across some kind of bunker. He finds the door and... is that "Werewolves of London" I hear? Writers, I don't know what you're trying to say with this song but I like it. Making his way inside, Malfoy realizes that he's hit the jackpot - there's motorcycles and leather couches and wine and food! "Promised land," he whispers, then tears into some food. And scotch. Treat yo' self, Malfoy!
He turns on the TV, and there's a recording playing. (How? Why? Who cares?! There's scotch!) On the screen, there's a guy, clearly upset, filming himself in the same room where Malfoy now sits. There's a time stamp that indicates the video was recorded on 5/10/2052. He says something about how "she took the launch codes," but it's his fault, and then he shoots himself. What, you can't just leave your Mean Girls blu-ray in the player like a normal person? And are we to assume that he's talking about the nuclear war that led to the Earth's destruction and the Ark's deployment?!!! (Update: Jason Rothenberg confirmed on Twitter that the date is indeed the day the world ended. It's also his birthday. He's a sick man.)
Meanwhile, Jaha is still running after the drone (Nike should make him their spokesperson) when he crests a hill and encounters a huge mansion, with dozens of drones buzzing overhead. "Curiouser and curiouser," he mutters, then heads inside. He is greeted by a beautiful woman, Ally, who knows his name and says she's been waiting for him. She's also a hologram! But not, like, the Princess Leia type. She's the visual manifestation of some kind of computer, like the Hydra in Captain America 2 but way hotter, and she tells Jaha that he was meant to be there. How did she know? Why, she received his gift! And the episode ends with the reveal of that very special present: the bomb that Jaha rode in on. "Thank you for bringing it down," Ally (henceforth known as ALL-E) says. "We have work to do." (Another Twitter update from Rothenberg: "The A.I. who ended the world has another nuke. What could go wrong?")
Underneath Mt. Weather
Our girl Octavia is still waiting underground by the "back door" of Mt. Weather when a body drops down the chute. A body of a girl she knows. Ouch. Suddenly, Octavia hears sounds coming around the corner, but it's not the enemy, it's Clarke. Same difference. O starts to give her a piece of her mind when the door swings open and OH MY GOD IT'S BELLAMY. I REPEAT. IT'S BELLAMY. AND NOW HE AND CLARKE ARE IN THE SAME ROOM. The writers really threw us a bone here-- I thought we'd have to wait until the very end to see them together! Octavia hugs him fiercely while he makes PROLONGED EYE CONTACT with Clarke. Rewind. Repeat. Rewind. Repeat.

And there's Jasper and Monty and Maya! Sorry guys, I, uh, didn't see you there. Clarke tells Bellamy that she lost her army, just like he lost his, and then she's enveloped in a group hug with Monty and Jasper. She mouths, "Thank you," to Maya, whose oxygen is running out. The group decides to split up, because that's ALWAYS a good idea. Octavia and Japser will go with Maya in search of oxygen, while Monty, Clarke and Bellamy will search for Dante.
At the Grounder Camp
Indra warns Lincoln, who is tied to a tree (I think?), not to violate Lexa's order of retreat or he will not be allowed back in to the Grounder community. But after she walks away, the camera pans down to a knife she's left right by Lincoln's hand. Well-played, Indra!
Inside Mt. Weather
A.J. Cage heads into the room where all of the prisoners are being kept, and hey, it's also the room where the marrow is being harvested! Way to be efficient, Mt. Weather. Smug Guard Lt. Emerson is back with some Sky People he's captured, and he pulls off their hoods to reveal Monroe, Miller's dad, Kane (!) and Abby (!). The guards pick Raven as their next drill victim, and in spite of a valiant effort from Wick (sa-woon), they strap her into the chair.
But Raven't isn't going down without a fight, and by that I mean, SHE BITES OFF A PIECE OF A GUARD'S NECK. THAT IS GROSS. AND AWESOME. Unfortunately, the guards retaliate by tasing the everliving daylights out of her. Then comes the drill. FUUUHHHHH.
On a different level, Clarke, Bells and Monty find Dante and ask for his help, but he refuses, reminding Clarke that she endangered the lives of his people. "We're the good guys," she says, but he responds by asking what would have happened to Mt. Weather, if he had released the Sky People and the Grounders? Touché, dude. The trio forces Dante to head with them to the command center, where they hope to spy on the guards' activities on Level 5.
Meanwhile, Octavia and Jasper get Maya to a level where she can breathe, and Jasper moves on to the next mission: Kill Cage. Why am I not surprised that Octavia is in?
Clarke and co. figure out that it was Dante, not Cage, who made a deal with the Grounders, while Monty hacks into the control center. The monitors flicker to life and display Raven slowly dying in the prisoner room. Clarke spots Emerson in the dining hall, so she grabs the radio and addresses him, parroting back his own line (the one he just kept repeating when he was a prisoner) right back at him. "Carl Emerson, Mount Weather Security Detail." She instructs Emerson to hand the radio over to Cage, who listens as Clarke demands the release of her people... or she'll kill his father. Cage, not quite believing that she'll go through with it, bids his father good-bye, and then CLARKE SHOOTS DANTE IN THE CHEST. K.O.-ed!!!! Holy shizz, Clarke! Cage hears his father die over the radio (nice touch, writers), followed by Clarke's vow. She won't stop until her people are free. And now he knows she means BIDNESS.
Cage sends Emerson to the command center to kill the threesome, but Monty deactivates his key card. He also, per Clarke, rigs the ventilation system to reverse, which would effectively irradiate level 5. Bellamy begs her to think about what she's doing, but Clarke can see no other option. Especially as she watches Cage march into the prison and force Abby to take Raven's place in the drill chair. Such a dick move! Kane cries out to Cage and offers to donate his marrow, but it's too late for that. Neither side trusts each other, so GOOD-BYE, ABBY'S BONE MARROW.
Down the hall, Maya returns to Jasper and Octavia with a guard who's on their side. He'll take Jasper in as a faux prisoner so that he can get close enough to Cage to kill him. Before Jasper can even say the word "knife," Octavia hands him one and offers a little advice. "Aim for the throat. Slash, don't stab. Make it deep." That's my girl! Maya gives Jasper a sweet yet pasionate kiss, then he says, "I love you." Okay, THAT'S IT. One of them is about to die. After he exists, two lip-locked teens stumble in, spot Octavia and immediately freak out. O pursues them and runs into two guards, whom she totally SLAYS. Like, literally slays. But more guards are approaching, and O and Maya end up trapped in the dining hall.
In the command center, Monty has the irradiation system ready to go, and all Clarke has to do is push down a lever. Then Emerson shows up outside the door with explosives. THIS IS GETTING VERY STRESSFUL. Bellamy sees Octavia captured by the guards and says, "My sister, my responsibility." He tells Clarke they'll push the lever together, so she won't have to carry the responsiblity on her own, and suddenly, two hands pushing on a lever is the most romantic thing I have ever seen. But also, HOLY SHIZZ THEY'RE KILLING MT. WEATHER. EVEN THE CHILDREN.
Inside the marrow room, Jasper begins to approach Cage, but then the radiation alarm goes off. Guards drop like flies as Cage flees out of the room, Jasper hot on his heels in search of Maya (I love how everyone's like, "Dude! Seriously! You can't unchain us first?"). He finds her, covered in burns, and takes her up in his arms. "None of us is innocent," she whispers before dying. MAYA OUT. Poor Jasper!
Clarke and Bellamy stare at everyone on the camera whom they just slaughtered. I like that this show doesn't let killers off easy. (*Cough* Finn *cough*.) "Let's go get our people," says Clarke. Along with Monty, they wander through the death dining hall and discover Jasper, still clinging to Maya's body and sobbing. "What did you do?" he asks Clarke, followed by, "How could you let this happen?" to Monty. And the knife, it goes into my gut.
Octavia makes it to the marrow room first and frees everyone. Hugs ensue! Clarke runs to Abby, who is surprisingly spry, and they embrace. Kane tells Bellamy, "You did good," (all the feels!) but O has a good question: "Where's Cage?"
Answer: he's in the forest! By himself? He couldn't even find Emerson? I smell a VERY satisfying death on the horizon. Lincoln comes barreling out of the shadows, but oh snap, Cage stops him with that Reaper blue light device. As Lincoln writhes on the ground, Cage pulls out the dosage gun, and I am going to be VERY UPSET if Cage wins this match. Fortunately for all of us, Lincoln manages to overcome his programming and SLICES CAGE'S ARM OFF. And not just any arm, but the arm holding the blue light. (Gives a whole new meaning to "killing two birds with one stone.") Then Lincoln grabs the dosage gun and shoots him right in the neck. SO SATISFYING. Cage appropriately chews the scenery while dying as Lincoln gets the last word: "The first dose is the worst." SMELL YA LATER, CAGE.
Back at Camp Jaha
The former Mt. Weather prisoners arrive back at Camp Jaha like a Parade of To' Up. Abby is carried through the gates, and Kane is walking beside her... holding her hand!!! Jasper walks through, looking so lost and forlorn. Dude needs a billion hugs, but instead, he gets his goggles back care of Raven, who is being carried by Wick (WICKEN FOREVER). Outside of the gates, Clarke hugs Monty, who's wearing a Mr. Rogers sweater that makes him look even more adorable.
Bellamy, rocking a wide collar t-shirt (Hello, clavicle!) heads over to Clarke, who tells him she's not coming in. She can't bear to see the faces of her people every day and be reminded of what she did to free them. "I bear it so they don't have to," she says, echoing Dante's earlier statement. Bellamy, stricken, offers her forgiveness, and a really smart person on Tumblr pointed out why this moment is even more amazing than you already thought it was:

MY HEART. IT HURTS.
But Bellamy's grace, while beautiful, isn't enough. Clarke needs time and solitude to process and grieve and come to terms with herself. So she kisses him on the cheek (!!!!!!) then holds him in a tight embrace. AND THE ANGELS WEEP.

Clarke whispers, "May we meet again," then walks away. Bellamy echoes, "May we meet again," as the camera focuses in on Clarke, her back to her people, her face filled with a mix of conviction and uncertainty.
AND THAT'S WHEN I DIED.
Mt. Weather 101:
Um... looks like we'll need a new category for Season Three!
Death Toll: A Plethora
- Cage
- Dante
- Maya
- The rest of Mt. Weather (with the exception of Emerson!)
Say What:
That Ahab's got a mean sense of humor.
Jasper: Why?
Jaha: So we could live. And because you can row.
Octavia, telling it like it is to Monty and Jasper:
You guys are too scrawny to drill.
It's okay, Cage, none of us knew Clarke as well as we thought.
Cage: You won't do it.
Clarke: You don't know me very well.
Anyone else tear up at this moment?
Clarke: I tried. I tried to be the good guy.
Abby: Maybe there are no good guys.
Burning Questions:
- So I guess we don't have to worry about Bellamy finding out about that whole Clarke/Octavia/missile thing, huh? That shizz is like small potatoes now.
- I was going to ask about Jasper's goggles, but Jason Rothenberg (creator) and one of the writers answered it for me:
@JRothenbergTV: It was important to us to get Jasper his goggles back. A) They’re great, B) It emphasizes how much he’s changed
@kimshum: Raven saved Jasper's goggles in 201! Here we come full circle.
- But speaking of Jasper, do you think he really stood a chance at killing Cage?
- Was it necessary for Clarke to kill Dante? And, similar but bigger question: was it necessary for Clarke to kill everyone in Mt. Weather?
- Was anyone else surprised that the writers killed Maya, given that her death was so predictable?
- How many times did you rewatch that last Bellarke scene?
- And, most important, WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT SEASON? Will Jaha fall under ALL-E's spell? Will Malfoy then have to take him down, all by himself? Will Emerson show up again? Will the writers torture us by having Bellamy or Clarke fall in love with someone else? Will Clarke join up with some Grounders? Or maybe some MUTANTS?!!*
*It might finally be their time, guys. Here's a picture that the writers' room tweeted of the season two storyboard. Check out the note in the bottom right-hand corner. Sure, it says, "NO MUTANTS!" but that means that THE MUTANTS ARE OUT THERE.
Now let's head to the comments and rehash every detail of this season (I mean, that storyboard alone requires hours of study) so we can distract ourselves from the long drought ahead. May we meet again, The 100. MAY WE MEET AGAIN.
