Last year, I had my heart ripped into shreds by Jeff Zenter’s debut novel The Serpent King. I was fully prepared for a similar experience with Goodbye Days, but—thankfully, for my mental state—this book wasn’t as heart wrenching: I only teared up once, rather than multiple times.
