Welcome to another edition of YA Onscreen! Stephanie’s traveling this week—you might have seen her meetup with Jennie in San Francisco—so I’m filling in to bring you the news you need to know (about YA-related movies and TV shows, at least).
Onto the news!
13 Reasons Why is getting a second season at Netflix. (Have you read our point and counterpoint articles about the show?)
The final Wonder Woman trailer dropped at last night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards:
While we’re on the subject of both superhero movies and things that dropped last night, here’s a new clip from Spider-Man: Homecoming:
And speaking of the MTV Movie & TV Awards, kudos to the show for being the first to go gender-neutral. Emma Watson was as gracious as ever while accepting her best actor award.
Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin will be a musical.
The BBC is working on “a new adaptation of The War of the Worlds by Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell writer Peter Harness.”
The Kentucky Derby saw some new Kingsman: The Golden Circle footage.
Birth.Movies.Death has a new It trailer(-ish thing) if you’re into not sleeping.
And here’s a trailer for SyFy’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist.
The CW’s cancelled Frequency and No Tomorrow.
Definitely not YA, but this news is unexpected and kind of unbelievable, but I love it: Jason Momoa will play Will Farrell’s son in an upcoming comedy film—one that’s being billed as “Galaxy Quest meets Ocean’s 11.”
