Thanks for joining us for this week's YA Onscreen! There's been a lot of titillating news happening over the last seven days (plus Game of Thrones is baaaaaack!), so let's not dawdle--to the links!
After bemoaning the fact that it was tough to find actors, Disney has announced during it's D23 Expo that they've found their main cast for the live-action version of Aladdin. The casting of Naomi Scott as Jasmine has not come without some controversy. Some were also disappointed that Avan Jogia wasn't a serious contender, but others say it's for the best.
Jodie Whittaker has been announced as the latest iteration of the Doctor, something that many fans have been wishing about for quite possibly decades. We at FYA are super pumped, but, yet again, this announcement does not come without the trolls crawling out of the woodwork. You don't want to miss these Daily Mail comments turned episode titles:
Even Merriam-Webster gets in on the action with a simple but blunt tweet:
The first teaser trailer for A Wrinkle In Time dropped recently and it's looking quite good. This was one of my all-time favorite childhood books, so I've got a lot of internal visions of this story to let go of, but I am here for Chris Pine as Dr. Murry:
ALL the Disney princesses will be making appearances in the new Wreck-It Ralph sequel, due out in March 2018.
Tracee Ellis Ross as Ms. Frizzle? We're here for it.
We've got the first picture of Wade Watts from the Spielberg directed, Ready Player One. This is one ambitious YA adaptation.
Character posters for Star Wars: The Last Jedi from the D23 Expo, plus some behind-the-scenes video.
Riverdale has scooped up Supergirl's Brit Morgan for a recurring role.
If you don't want to wait for the footage to leak or for the official trailer, you can read about the first bit of footage for Avengers: Infinity War. In detail.
Paul Wesley directed yesterday's episode of Shadowhunters.
Apparently Starz is developing an untitled fictional-but-heavily-influenced-by-real-life drama series based on Mariah Carey's rise to fame.
Sunday's Game of Thrones season 7 opener was the most-watched premiere in HBO history. Also, if you're a fan of GoT and Hamilton, you're going to be pleasantly amused by this surprisingly decent mash-up parody song.
Finally, one of my other beloved childhood series, R.L. Stine's Fear Street, is going to be adapted for the big screen, with a potentially innovative movie-release strategy.
That's it for the week. Let's us know what news you're most excited about below!
