Procrastination Pro-Tips: Your Daily Riggins, Stop Calling Books “Guilty Pleasures”, And More!

Happy Friday, everyone! I'm taking over for Amanda this week while she's on summer vacay. With all the back-to-school stuff going on this week, I definitely needed some of these links to take my mind off work.

Book Related Things

100 must-read MG fantasy books from the last decade. How many have you read?

Stop book-shaming! Let your cheesiest romance novel, your sparkliest YA confection, and your geekiest elvish fantasy out of their plain book covers and stop feeling bad about your book "guilty pleasures"!

We've got a sneak peek at Sabaa Tahir's new bookA Reaper at the Gates, sequel to A Torch Against the Night, as well as a new cover design...and it's kind of a let down? Definitely not as pretty as the originals. Is this style more to your taste?

Puddin', the adorably-titled sequel to Julie Murphy's Dumplin', will be out next spring!

News straight from Sarah J. Maas' newsletter: a brand-new A Court of Thorns and Roses novella is coming May 2018. This will, in her words, "bridge the gap between the original trilogy and the upcoming spinoff books, and lay a bunch of the groundwork for the set-up of the new novels. All of the old gang is back (and it is narrated by Feyre and Rhys)." My body is ready.

Renee Ahdieh's next book is also out in May 2018. Follow-up Smoke in the Sun is the sequel to The Flame in the Mist. May will be a wealth of riches.

YA Onscreen Things

ICYMI, in this week's YA Onscreen we say goodbye to Orphan Black, someone makes a Kickstarter for a Barack and Joe time-travel comic, and Netflix wins Shonda away from ABC after a long relationship.

The Hate U Give adaptation adds Algee Smith in the role of Starr's best friend, Khalil. Quite an important role!

Want to feel old? Are You Afraid of the Dark premiered 25 years ago this week.

We're seeing a rise in more socially conscious, coming-of-age YA movie adaptations taking over for the big-budget, special effects driven fantasy adaptations of yester-last-year.

Our next stand-alone Star Wars movie may be about Obi-Wan.

Season 2 promo for Riverdale:

Social Media Things

One more reason why Channing Tatum is one of the best celebrities of today:

These comic book characters took a harsher stance against Nazis than Donald Trump and probably didn't contradict themselves quite as many times, either.

Did you know about the Daily Riggins Instagram account? Well, now you do (you're welcome).

I kind of love when celebrities share old home movies of themselves and Lin Manuel Miranda is no exception.

Bonnie Tyler is going to be on a cruise ship during the eclipse and will sing, you guessed it, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" at the exact moment it begins. This amuses me greatly.

Miscellaneous Things

I'm always down for more romantic comedies and Netflix is delivering one starring Ali Wong and Randall Parker, who co-wrote the script as well.

Vinessa Shaw, who played Allison in Hocus Pocus, is having a baby and put this (joke) themed announcement on her Instagram. And now I need to rewatch that movie...

29 essential '90s movie soundtracks.

I don't know why it makes me happy that Julie Benz and Charmisa Carpenter are still good buddies years after being on Buffy and Angel, but it does!

That's it for me - happy (hour) Friday! Share the links we missed down in the comments!
