YA Onscreen: THE VALIANT Becomes The Latest YA Adaptation For The CW

Welcome back to this week's YA Onscreen! Did everyone in the US go outside and manage to not burn their retinas during Eclipse Mania yesterday? If you can still see, go ahead and peruse the links below.

The CW, one of our trusty TV networks that loves to parse their next hit from the pages of YA, has optioned a show based on Lesley Livingston's book, The Valiant, about female gladiators. 

Alert, alert! Matthew Goode is coming back to our TV screens as one of the leads on the upcoming series, A Discovery of Witches, adapted from the All Souls trilogy from Deborah Harkness. Teresa Palmer is also joining him as the main character, Diana.

NBC has passed on a Xena reboot. I know we didn't need yet another reboot, but I feel a little miffed on Xena's behalf, like, what, she's not good enough for a reboot?

Not really YA news, but somewhat related -- if you're in the Chicago area, you can stop by a Stranger Things themed bar!

Actor Jordan Bolger, most recently of Peaker Blinders, has been added to the upcoming season of The 100 as a "self-professed adrenaline junkie named Zeke Shaw". 

They've also recast Clarke's adopted daughter, Madi

Katee Sackhoff is joining The Flash as DC Comics villain, Blacksmith.

A bunch of actors have added their names to the movie version of Julie Murphy's Dumplin'

Not exactly YA, but we at FYA were big fans of Agent Carter, and it's worth mentioning that writer and co-producer, Andi Bushell, is developing a female-driven series on The CW, called The She Word. It's about four female assistants who discover gender discrimination at their male-dominant workplace. I assume it'll be funnier than that synopsis sounds.
