Welcome back to the YA Movie News Roundup, where I deliver all the news you can use!
This week brought a whole mess of new pics from the upcoming The Maze Runner adaptation, directed by Wes Ball and adapted by James Dashner and Noah Oppenheim from the book by Dashner. Behold your Thomas:
And man-oh-man, the cast of Matilda reunited seventeen years later, and everyone looks like they're having such a blast!
A fella named Brenton Thwaites has been cast as Jonas in the upcoming adaptation of Lois Lowry's The Giver, one of my favorite books as a kid. Thwaites has most recently played Prince Phillip in the live-action Maleficent that's on the horizon, plus some other stuff I've never heard of. This is what he looks like:
Did you know actor Donal Logue has written a YA book? It's called Agua and it's been picked up by Harper Collins, and this sort of counts as movie news because he's in movies sometimes.
Now, I seriously, seriously love Ender's Game, but I seriously, seriously loathe its massively homophobic nutjob author, Orson Scott Card. So I kind of can't blame this group, Geeks OUT, for organizing a boycott of the upcoming film. Summit isn't entirely unaware of Card's bogus reputation, because they are NOT bringing him to the Comic-Con panel next week. I don't know how to feel about this! I want the movie to be great but I also want Orson Scott Card to be held accountable for his despicable world views! Update: I wrote a post about it.
And speaking of Comic-Con, Divergent, Veronica Mars, Mortal Instruments and Catching Fire will all represent at SDCC this year. Look for a special Comic-Con Edition of the Roundup when I report exhausted and hung-over from the front lines in two weeks!
Here's a possibly spoilery, possibly bogus cameo rumor for Veronica Mars. And here's a pic of Ronnie and Vinnie, reunited at last. Doesn't she look so pleased? Nice kicks, Ken.
And that's it! Sort of a slow news week, my friends. See you here next Tuesday!
