Procrastination Pro-Tips: Happy Birthday, Harry Potter and More!

Happy Friday, y’all. I don’t know about you, but there’s something seriously awry with the fact that it’s already August. I feel like I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole, Alice Liddell-style, and have lost a few months of 2013. (Way to be a downer, Mandy C.!) That said, the world continues to turn, and the Internet continues to be a most excellent diversion. What kind of diversions kept us busy this week?

Book-related Things

This week marked Harry Potter (and Neville Longbottom’s) 33rd birthday. To celebrate, “Ron Weasley” got a little drunk and went on Jimmy Fallon.

All seven Kazu Kibuishi-designed covers for the anniversary issues of Harry Potter have now been revealed. I am totally in love with the design of the spines. Oh, and they’ve started revealing the back covers now, too.

Quasi-related, I'd like to give you an example of how not to be a fan of something: A woman tattooed the likeness of a Harry Potter fan forum mod's face on her leg—but has now turned to death threats in order to show the depths of her love.

Steimatzky, a bookstore chain in Israel, is celebrating the power of reading with this new ad series. If I woke up next to Sherlock Holmes, however, I’d hope it would be the Benedict Cumberbatch version.

The cover for the third book in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles has been revealed.

There’s something seriously hinky going on with Penguin’s electronic galley policies.

The tagline for the Oliver Twist-inspired ice cream in this list is THE BEST.

Movie-related Things

The Japanese trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire features a few different scenes. (And some odd music.)

Sigourney Weaver is reportedly in talks to play Inquisitor Imogen Herondale in The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes.

Here’s a trailer for the new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet starring Douglas Booth (who has starred in a movie opposite Miley Cyrus) and Hailee Steinfeld (who was nominated for an Oscar) as the star-crossed lovers.

Disney is planning a live-action Artemis Fowl adaptation based on the first two books in Eoin Colfer’s series.

TV-related Things

If the BBC is to be believed, the actor playing Doctor Who’s Twelfth Doctor will be announced this weekend.

Michele Carragher, the embroiderer behind many of the incredible costumes of Game of Thrones, has a blog that showcases her extraordinary talents.

MTV’s in-development Scream show now has writers.

Miscellaneous Things

As someone born in the 80s who sometimes forgets she’s not a teenager anymore, this hurts my heart.

Interested in changing your fate? Try this new form of plastic surgery. (Please don’t.)

Did we miss anything particularly mind-blowing this week? Let us know in the comments!
