Cover Story: Of Triton

It’s Monday morning, y’all, which means that it’s time once again for bemoaning the end of another weekend lots of coffee and another edition of Cover Story, our weekly feature in which we make up plots for books by judging them by their covers.

This week, I’ll be delving into the world of what happens after happily ever after, as inspired by Anna Banks’ Of Triton.

Of Triton: A Cover Story

Prince Eric II has dreamed of the sea for as long as he can remember. At first, the dreams were merely flashes of imagery: a sparkling sea shell, a bright yellow and blue-striped fish, a dimly lit underwater cavern. But lately, the flashes have been becoming more concrete ... and more urgent.

He’s heard the rumors that float through the palace. That his mother, Queen Ariel, isn’t exactly what she seems to be. That her history and background have strange holes in it. When he was little, Eric used to question her about his maternal grandparents, who he’d never met, but she always deftly avoided the subject. He once overheard a hushed conversation between his father and his mother about something or someone named Triton, but his father’s manservant Grimsby caught him in the hallway before he could glean anything more.

Too many dreams. Too many secrets. Eric doesn’t know where to turn or who to turn to. Until, one night, he dreams of a girl he’s never seen before—but whose shining aqua eyes seem to hold all the answers.
