Welcome back to the YA Movie News Roundup! Let's dig into the scoop.
Michael Gracey (a visual effects supervisor turned first time director) has been hired to helm the film adaptation of Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone for Universal. The film will be produced by Joe Roth of Oz the Great and Powerful and Snow White and the Huntsman fame, both of which have a very specific CGI-y aesthetic, so if his influence is visible we already know what this movie will look like. And the screenwriter is Stuart Beattie, who has written pretty good movies like Collateral and 30 Days of Night, okay movies like Derailed and Pirates of the Caribbean, and bad movies like G.I. Joe and I, Frankenstein. (To be fair, I, Frankenstein isn't out yet, but I promise you it is bad). I dunno about this team, but who knows. This movie could be more Collateral and less Snow White and the Huntsman.
Veronica Mars will officially be released to theaters March 14, 2014, so get ready! That's pi (3.14) day, or as many marshmallows have pointed out, P-I (private investigator) day, so it's a cute little coincidence. Check out the new footage below.
The Five Most Unintentionally Erotic Moments of Catching Fire. Glad I'm not the only one who really, really wants Katniss to ditch both Peeta and Gale and make out with Cinna, because Lawrence and Kravitz have some smoking hot chemistry.
There will be another Jungle Book movie. I mean ANOTHER another. One's in the works at Disney with Jon Favreau set to direct, and now Warner Bros is planning one with Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel, Amores Perros, Biutiful, 21 Grams, so, like, REAL movies) at the helm.
There will be a Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie! From...Saw sequel writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan? So far no word if illustrator Stephen Gammell will participate (please!!), but there's still plenty of time for that.
And I'll wrap up with three pieces of Fifty Shades news. Marcia Gay Harden is joining the cast as "Grace Trevelyan Grey, the doctor who adopted Christian at four years old after his drug-addicted biological mother committed suicide," and she is a real actress so okay. Dylan Neal, aka Pacey's gay cop brother in Dawson's Creek, will play Bob, "Anastasia Steele’s (Dakota Johnson) stepfather and husband of Carla Adams (Jennifer Ehle)." And finally, you can buy REAL LIFE Fifty Shades lingerie because we are living in the Idiocracy.
