Procrastination Pro-Tips: Harry Gets A New Face

As much as I’d love to think of something clever to talk about right now, I really need to be wrapping my presents for my book club’s annual holiday gift swap.  So let’s get straight into this week’s links!

Book Related Things

J.K. Rowling herself helped pick a new illustrator for the redesign of the British Harry Potters.  What do you think?  They definitely look better than the old British covers (which, sorry Brits, were awful) but I still prefer the Mary GrandPre versions myself.

Tor has a piece on diversity in YA SFF.  It also led me to these pieces on The Toast by Sara Rees Brennan and Malinda Lo that I missed last month that are really excellent.  Definitely worth a read.

Buzzfeed attends a Jane Austen Society of North America regional meeting.  (And speaking of Jane Austen, here is an update on the Austen MMORPG.)

How some libraries are championing video games to their patrons.

Movie Related Things

Golden Globe nominations are out.  Who are your favorites to win this year?

Mockingjay has cast Antonius.  And if you’re having trouble remembering which character that is, that’s because he doesn’t exist.  Okay.

Looks like there is going to be an animated feature based on The Diary of Anne Frank.  (Don’t worry, the director has a background of serious animated movies.)

Those of you fanning over Mandy’s Studio Ghibli series may want to check out the trailer for the live action Kiki’s Delivery Service.

Andrew Lloyd Webber fans have Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Cats film versions to look forward to.

Looks like Disney will be releasing new Indiana Jones films.

Fifty Shades of Grey is coming out with an official lingerie line.  Because, clearly.

TV Related Things

Lots of trailers this week, including Sherlock season 3, the Doctor Who Christmas Special and Community season 5.

Disney is making a TV movie called Descendants, which focuses on the teen offspring of various Disney heroes and villains going to school together. I’ll admit, I’m intrigued.

Sorry everyone.  Creator Peter Berg says the Friday Night Lights movie isn’t happening.

Buzzfeed has an important look at female TV characters and the internet abuse they received this year.

Viewers, you did this.  NBC is going to make more live musicals now.

Some spoilers for Dark Horse’s upcoming Firefly comic.

MTV is working on a TV show based on Terry Brooks’ Shannara.

Weeds and Orange Is The New Black creator Jenji Kohan is working with HBO on a new TV series set during the Salem witch trials.

Miscellaneous Things

Scandelous (and lengthy) piece on the Lisa Frank company.

Amy Poehler and Billy Eichner ambush New Yorkers with Christmas Carols.  Adorable.

Thank you internet, for this Snape Christmas tree and and these Harry Potter emojis.

That’s all the links for this week.  Anything you want to share with us?
