Over the past few weeks, we’ve analyzed 64 couples in various ways, from GIFs and stories about how they first met, to fan art, fanfiction, and swimfantages. You made the hard decisions, you made your impassioned pleas, and slowly the couples were whittled down to two.
Here a look at where the bracket stands:
(2) Veronica/Logan (Veronica Mars) vs. (4) Anne/Gilbert (Anne of Green Gables)
Although we’ve taken in-depth looks at both of these couples over this competition, nothing beats a heartfelt personal story from someone who feels as strongly about these duos as they feel about each other. And the experts at FYA HQ are the perfect people to do just that.
From Kandis:
I started shipping Anne and Gilbert from the moment she cracked a slate over his head. Because I don’t care how cute a boy is, if he makes fun of your appearance, that is the correct response. This was probably the beginning of my love for the hate at first sight romance trope. Pretty much nothing is more adorable than Gilbert trying to get Anne’s attention, especially by competing against her in school. And then he rescues her when her boat sinks while reciting Tennyson? (Hey, it could happen to anybody.) The moment that really did it for me though is after Matthew died, when Anne gives up her college scholarship to be near Marilla, and knowing how important it is to Anne, Gilbert gives up his teaching job to Anne, so she can stay at Green Gables. If that doesn’t make you cry just thinking about it, I don’t even want to know you.
From Mandy W.:
Veronica and Logan actually snuck up on me—a feeling that might be shared by other viewers, since the Veronica Mars writers themselves hadn't planned on them being a couple until seeing the undeniable chemistry between their actors. But, really—who would have shipped Veronica with, in her words, the "obligatory psychotic jackass" that we met in the pilot? Not to mention that he was her BFF's boyfriend and her first love's best friend; Logan Echolls raised MANYYYY red flags as a love interest. But then the two of them started setting aside their differences to work together, culminating in the fist-pump worthy first kiss that would ignite an epic romance. I hadn't consciously shipped the snarky former foes until that moment, but once it happened, I was like, YES YES OF COURSE they should be together! But isn't that always the case when it's true LoVe?
And now, it’s up to you to decide: Which one of these pairs will reign supreme?
Polls close at 11:59 p.m. CST this Saturday (April 16); the winner will be announced early next week!
May the swooniest couple win!
